ABOUT OUR STAFF:
Sarah Dawn Furtado, Co-Founder/Director
Always an artist, Sarah was born and raised in Plymouth Massachusetts in an extremely supportive family. Pursuing her passion, she attended MassArt in Boston studying fine art and art education. After graduating in 1999, her journey brought her to San Francisco to study her Masters at the Academy of Art. Right after earning her degree, Sarah discovered Bikram Yoga.
After taking her first class, she was forever hooked on the natural high and over all feeling of well-being each sweaty class brought. It was the perfect blend of a hard workout and a headspace where some of her biggest solutions to life’s struggles were reached, just having the practice to search herself and work on that lack of self-realization Bikram speaks of overcoming.
Sarah attended training at the Bikram Yoga College of India in Los Angeles in 2004, and has been practicing and teaching ever since. Being lucky enough to have studied under and taught for Mary Jarvis for many years in California, she tries to bring a more loving and personal approach to each class, and loves incorporating music into the series. Sarah is also a certified Yin Yoga instructor and has completed her 200hr Hatha Vinyasa Yoga and Ayurveda therapy certifications (RYT 200).
Lori Givens, Co-Founder.
Lori Givens most noteworthy yoga event is her double feature in two issues of Oprah Magazine in 2010. She is the founder of the Bikram Yoga studio in Memphis, TN, where she grew a simple idea of owning her own yoga studio from dream, to her business plan, to an empty storefront, to a profitable and viable business, completely and totally on her own. Prior to that, Ms. Givens studied and taught yoga mostly in New York City, where she lived for 5 years, practicing not only Bikram Yoga under many qualified instructors, but also studying with Dharma Mittra, the creator of the Master Yoga Chart of 908 Postures and director of the Dharma Yoga Center.
Molly Bernas – Certified Yoga Instructor
Molly, certified and RYT since 2011, began practicing hot yoga in 2008 and fell in love with the way it made her feel. From stress relief to the physical challenge and mental focus that is required, hot yoga is like nothing she’d ever experienced. “I became a teacher to share this unique experience with others.”
Molly has lived in Florida since the age of 5. She is a full time Physical Therapist Assistant and has a deep love and passion for helping others. The knowledge she has gained as a professional in Physical Therapy and Anatomy has been extremely beneficial in teaching yoga – her classes bring an element of expertise that allows her to communicate effectively with students of all levels, especially those recovering from an injury.
Outside of yoga, you’ll find Molly at the beach, spending time with family and friends or listening to live music at Rubys Elixir downtown.
Chris Anderson – Certified Yoga Instructor
Chris, 200 RYT, attended his first yoga class in 2010 to help recover from sports-related injuries. After months of Bikram practice healed his muscle strains the ‘hot yoga bug’ took hold, causing him to practice sometimes as much as 6 days a week. Chris is a firm believer that our skin, muscles, and mind are healthiest when we “sweat it out” every day… and hot yoga is the safest way to achieve that!
His Hot Power Flow class features upbeat music to boost the intensity. Outside of yoga, Chris works as a software engineer in the glass industry, paints, runs 5K races, travels, and line dances.
Ryan Lahre – Certified Yoga Instructor:
Ryan has long had an on-again, off-again relationship with yoga… The days still arrive when she wants to press the snooze button and skip class “just this once”. But yoga makes her feel alive, so it’s always a much appreciated choice! Yoga takes her constantly multitasking mind down to stillness, where the breath and body are the only focus. This helps her notice the little things going on inside and the body parts asking for more attention.
As a teacher, she loves to help other people take the time for themselves and get connected with what’s going on in their own bodies. She knows it’s not always easy to do, but that the time is a worthy investment. Her class will be full of guidance so that people of all experience levels can jump right in. See you on the mat!
Jayne has an undergraduate degree in Journalism and a Masters degree in Occupational Therapy. Additionally, she is a 200 E-YT and is currently earning 500 hour training with American Ayurveda Professionals of North America (AANPA). Also, she is a certified Yin Yoga and Stand Up Paddle Board Yoga instructor.
She started practicing yoga in 2005 after having reconstructive knee surgery. Experiencing, the physical, emotional and spiritual healing of her yoga practice, she began her first teacher training in 2008 to further her knowledge of yoga and share it with others. Her practice focuses on inclusion of all people regardless of their abilities, keeping it real, safe and beneficial.
Lana has been practicing hot yoga for over 10 years, and teaching for over 6 years. Her practice has helped her grow stronger, more flexible and fearless, both on and off the mat. She loves to combine a spirit of playfulness and a dose of inspiration to help others deepen their practice.
Michelle graduated from the University of Florida with her Bachelor of Arts with the intention of becoming a physician assistant. While on a mission trip, she led yoga sessions every morning and realized she wanted to take her passion further. She found her love for yoga in 2013 when she was starting to feel the pain from her running years and decided to rehabilitate her body through yoga.
Michelle graduated from Studio 108’s 200 teacher training program in 2017. Michelle is eager to lead fellow yogis through all forms of yoga and show how amazing the gift of our bodies really is. Even off the mat you will always see Michelle practicing yoga with her mind and body whether that be traveling the world or at the beach.
